Life is for the living.
At least that’s what they say. I’m not quite sure who ‘they’ are, but one thing is for sure, there are not many of us who can honestly say that they are free to live the life they want to?
We like to blame circumstance, or others for our life not being how we’d like it to be, but ultimately I feel that the block lies with us.
We have been taught to be masters of our own constraint. There are so many should’s/ought’s in our lives. Not enough f**k it, lets do its in our lives!
I am not talking here about a wholesale lets just give up everything and do what we want, (although how bad could that really be??) I’m just saying that perhaps its time that we released ourselves from our own self-imposed bondage, and lived life for a little while.
We all have things in our life that we must do. The ‘must do’ list as I call it. We must have enough money to get by, we must have a job to get that money, we must pick the kids up from school, visit our parents, go shopping, do the washing, iron, mow the lawn, get fit, lose weight… the list is endless. But what if we weren’t to do the ‘must do’ list for just one day?
Would the world really fall apart?
I’m not so sure.
Perhaps it would and I’m living in an idealistic world, it just seems that to me we could all do with a dose of freedom in our lives.
Freedom is such a BIG word isn’t it? You can’t be ‘half-free’ you’re either free or your not! Freedom is a state of mind, a way of being in your life, so that even when you are doing those things that need to be done you are doing them from a completely different place. Doing them not out of obligation but from a place of love.
I guess what I’m saying is that perhaps its time that we played a little with being a bit more free, releasing the shackles of everyday life just a little bit to bring more enjoyment and fun into our lives.
I’ve been sitting with myself this week. Sitting often in silence or singing my kirtans. Going within to hang out with myself. I’m only just starting to touch the ache within me, that yearning, but one thing it is encouraging me to be, is a little more gentle on myself, a little bit more free with the love that I give to myself.
We give ourselves such a hard time in life. If only we did this, if only we’d have done that. The what if? Q questions that so often tear us apart. What if I’d said this or done that? Maybe things would be different. We are tough masters to ourselves. We give ourselves tough love, never just LOVE.
We are so busy in our lives, so busy filling it with stuff, that we rarely stop, and give ourselves credit for living this amazing life! It is frankly miraculous what some of us get done and do in our lives! When was the last time you congratulated yourself on being amazing??
I’m guessing it’s probably been a while..
So I’m suggesting that this month you experiment with a touch of freedom. I’m not saying ditch your job, sod the kids and leave all responsibilities behind. I’m talking about being kind to yourself enough to allow yourself a little space, a little smattering of freedom to do whatever you want to do.
A little time is all it takes. Not much, no siree! not much at all!
I’m talking about letting out the belt by one notch, leaving yourself a little more breathing space, and playing with being freer.
Next time you pick up the kids, how about dropping into the cake shop and getting yourself (and the kids) something naughty but nice?
When you go and visit your family, how about popping out to a local attraction and just having fun in the sun?
How about putting your favourite CD in the car and blaring it out at full blast singing like no one can hear you in the car?
Taking time out in the morning to just check in with you. Daring to use the special scent you love or having a pampering bath in the morning, just for the hell of it!
How about coming home and before the rest of your family get home, cranking up the stereo and dancing like no ones watching?
Next time it rains, don’t huff and puff and grumble run out into the rain, take off your shoes and feel the damp grass beneath your feet, and in-between your feet, get absolutely soaking wet and love it!
What about booking in time for you and your loved one to spend a day in bed? Cuddly and snuggly all loved up together.
See? When we just take a little time for us, it’s amazing how we can shift how life feels to us. No longer the burden of life, but the freedom of life. We can’t all just say bugger it all and disappear off, we all have responsibilities, and we all have stuff that needs to get done. That’s life!
But I just don’t buy that it all has to be hard work!
I think that by making it hard work, we’re missing the potential joy that life has to offer us. We’re missing the good bits!
So why not play with being a bit more free this month?
Go on I dare you!
Be frivolous, be playful, and be joyful!
Give yourself the permission to be free this month. Give yourself the time, and love that you give to others. Make a bit of time for you in your life, and play with being free.. See the miracle of your life; it is just waiting for you to notice it!
